We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value:

Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
Working software over comprehensive documentation
Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
Responding to change over following a plan

That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.

For the vast majority in order to survive we need to be able to learn and adapt based on short feedback loop. Agile's principles recognize and advocate us to move in that way in software development's activities. They are equally true and applicable in other areas

Vishal Somal: I didnt realise that I was more Agile a decade back when working with a small IT company in Bombay, India till I studied/got certified in Agile PM last March (2011). I could relate to all the Agile practices more closely and felt that I lost the agility working with large offshore based companies where processes are created to give assurance to overseas customers about quality.
Aaron Steele: As developers and technologists, we have, in many cases, forgotten why we are employed; to add and create customer value. Agile helps bring back that focus.

After having had a large experience with quality models, methods, methodologies and frameworks, working with agile principles on software development seems a very interesting, natural and easy to implement way to finally intellectualize the way we work. Principles like self-management teams, to value people and interactions and be always able to adaptations are great keys to increase team productivity and morale.
