  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
  • Working software over comprehensive documentation
  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
  • Responding to change over following a plan

That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.

Brian Boelsterli: (CREOSS) This Manifesto truly marked the beginning of a major transformation and paradigm shift in the industry. We presented a case study at the very first Agile Conference in 2003 (Salt Lake City),using Paceline(formerly "Rhythm"), a blending of Scrum/XP/Lean/Kanban. It has been truly gratifying to be able to add value to our client base's ecosystems leveraging the Manifesto. We would have liked to see a 5th core value--Aligning business and technology over IT-driven business solutions.

We subscribe to agile development principles, which includes the following points: a) Change is OK. We expect the scope and deliverables to change mid-project based on the needs of the business. b) Frequent releases and Continuous Integration are important to me. Success = working software. c) Business people and developers must work together daily to succeed. Face to face meetings are always best, followed by voice communications, last - email. d) In terms of project management, we feel that the best teams are self-organizing teams. We believe in building projects around motivated individuals, giving them the tools and support they need, and trusting them to get the work done. e) We will pay continuous attention to process and technical improvements. Reflection and change is a part of our work. f) Simplicity = maximizing the work not done = success.

We used to struggle against traditional engineering management in the 80s and 90s, but Agile has provided us with well-researched material to show the point. For Agile - it's not that it's new - it's just now explained well.
